Medyada topluma sunulan intihar haberlerinin sunuş biçimleri ve toplumda görülen intihar hızlarındaki artış arasındaki olumlu yöndeki ilişki Werther etkisi olarak bilinmekte ve kökeni 18. yüzyıla kadar dayanmaktadır. Medyada yer alan haberlerin intihar hızlarını etkiliyor olması ülkemizdeki Basın Kanunu'nda da intihar haberleri ile ilgili kısıtlamalara gidilmesini zorunlu kılmıştır. Diğer taraftan sinema filmleri, basında sunulan haberlere kıyasla intiharı çok daha etkileyici bir şekilde işleyebilmektedir. Popüler sinema filmlerinde konu edilen intihar, toplum üzerinde olumsuz etkiler yaratabileceği gibi bir eğitim malzemesi veya psikoterapi işleyişi içinde olumlu yönde etkiler elde edebilmek amacı ile kullanılabilir. Bu yazıda sinema filmlerinde konu edilen intihar vakalarının muhtemel olumsuz etkileri, eğitimde ve psikoterapide olumlu şekillerde kullanabilme imkânları, popüler film örnekleri üzerinden gidilerek tartışılmıştır. Popüler filmler içinde küçümsenmeyecek sayıda bulunan intihar içerikli filmlerin toplum üzerindeki olumsuz etkileri, psikolojik sağlık hizmeti veren uzmanların klinik eğitimlerinde kullanılmaları ve sinematerapideki etkileri üzerine yapılabilecek bilimsel çalışmaların artması gerekmektedir.

The positive relationship between the presentation styles of reports of suicide in the media and the increase in the suicide rate has been known as the Werther effect and its roots are embedded in the 18th century. The fact that, reports of suicide in the media increases the number of suicide attempts has urged the Turkish Press Law to put some limits to the reports of suicide in the media. On the other hand, movie films can present suicide in a much more effective way, compared to reports in the media. Though topics of suicide in popular movie films may create negative effects on society, it may be utilized either as an education tool or in the psychotherapy process as a means to reach the desirable positive goals. In this report, possible negative effects of contents of suicide in the movie films, the ways to make positive use of these contents in education and psychotherapy processes have been discussed, through various examples of popular movie films. Popular movie films portraying suicide should be investigated in terms of their possible negative impact over the population and for their positive use in clinical training of mental health professionals and in cinematherapy.
