Amaç: Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, normal bireylerdeki aleksitimi ile psikolojik belirtiler ve bağlanma stilleri arasındaki ilişkileri incelemektir. Ayrıca, cinsiyet ve eğitim gibi sosyodemografik değişkenler ile aleksitimi arasındaki ilişkilerin araştırılması da çalışmanın diğer bir amacıdır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya yaş aralığı 18-40 arası olan 300 kişi katılmıştır. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 26.71'dir (ss=7.00). Veri toplama aracı olarak Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği, Yakın İlişkilerde Yaşantılar Envanteri ve Kısa Semptom Envanteri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Örneklem aleksitimi puanlarına göre iki uç gruba ayrılmış ve aleksitimi puanı yüksek olan grubun, psikolojik semptomları daha fazla sergiledikleri görülmüştür. Ayrıca kaçınmacı ve kaygılı bağlanma puanlarının da daha yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Regresyon analizleri sonucunda da, eğitim, kaygılı bağlanma ve psikolojik belirti değişkenlerinin aleksitimi puanlarını yordadığı gözlenmektedir. Sonuç: Bu çalışma normal bireylerde psikolojik belirtiler, bağlanma stilleri ve eğitim düzeyi gibi değişkenlerin aleksitimi puanları ile nasıl bir ilişki içerisinde olduğuna ilişkin bilgiler vermektedir. Bu bilgiler klinik psikoloji uygulamalarında yararlı olabilir. Terapiye başvuran hastaların psikolojik semptomları değerlendirilirken, bunların aleksitimik özellikleri olabileceği göz önünde bulundurulmalıdır. Ayrıca, bu özellilerin de düşük eğitim düzeyi ve güvensiz bağlanma ile ilişkisinin göz önünde bulundurulması, hem uygulanacak olan terapi türünün hem de terapide kullanılacak tekniklerin belirlenmesinde yararlı olabilir.

Objective: The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between alexithymia, psychological symptoms and attachment styles in normal individuals. Another purpose of the present study was to examine the associations between sosyodemografic variables such as sex and educational level and alexithymia. Method: Three hundred individuals between 18 to 40 [year]s of age participated. The mean age of participants was 26.71 [year]s (ss= 7.00). Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), Experience in Close Relationships (ECR), and Brief Symptom Inventory (BIS) were used for data collection. Results: The sample was divided into two different groups in terms of alexithymia scores. Alexithymic individuals had significantly higher scores on the psychological symptoms, avoidant and anxious attachment styles. The regression analysis also revealed that educational level, anxious attachment style and psycholocial symptoms were important predictors of alexithymia scores. Conclusion: According to the results of the current study, high psycholocial symptoms, anxious attachment style and low levels of education were important predictors of alexithymia scores. Thus, these findings may be useful for clinical psychological practices. When psychological symptoms of clients seeking therapy are being evaluated, it is important to note that these may be the characteristics of alexithymia. In addition, taking into consideration the relationships between these features of alexithymia and low levels of education and unsecure attachment styles might help to determine both the type of therapy and techniques which will be used in this therapy.
