Transference and its dynamics
Transference is Freud's term, comes from the very beginning of psychoanalysis, and is a core and essential concept. As with many of Freud's theoretical discoveries, his elaborations of the concept of transference were attempts to understand the causes of neurosis. Transference in its widest sense is regarded as a universal phenomenon in interpersonal relationships. In its restricted sense, transference implies a specific relationship of patient to psychoanalyst, especially as revealed in the so-called transference neurosis. This paper presents some considerations on the dynamics of transference and the part it plays in the psychoanalytic process.
