Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB) olan hastalarda olumsuz etkilendiği bildirilen dikkat görsel bellek, görsel algıdaki organizasyon becerisi ve yürütücü işlevlerde metilfenidat tedavisi sonrasında değişiklik olup olmadığı ve hangi işlevlerin bu tedaviye daha iyi yanıt verdiğinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemini, kliniğimize başvuran ve DEHB tanısı konan, yaşları 9-13 arasında olan 15 erkek çocuk oluşturmuştur. Çalışmaya alınan tüm çocuklara tedavi öncesi WISC-R, Görsel Anlık Bellek Uzamı (GAB), Bender Geştalt Görsel-Motor Algı Testi (BGT) ve Stroop Renk Kelime Testi uygulanmış ve metilfenidat tedavisinin altıncı ayında metilfenidat etkisindeyken tüm değerlendirmeler tekrarlanmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri SPSS 13.0 paket programı kullanılarak değerlendirilmiştir. Tedavi öncesi ve sonrası veriler Mann-Whitney U testi ile hesaplanmıştır. Sonuçlar: Uygulanan nöropsikolojik testler arasında tedavi öncesine goreWISC-R ve GAB testlerinde tedavi sonrası bir değişiklik saptanmazken, Stroop testi ve BGT testinde anlamlı düzelme olduğu görülmüştür. Tartışma: Çalışmadan elde edilen veriler, örneklem sayısının yetersiz olmasına rağmen DEHB'de metilfenidat tedavisinin motor koordinasyon, enterferans direnci ve yanıtı bekletebilme gücünü değerlendiren testlerde düzelme sağladığını göstermiştir.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of methylphenidate on impaired neuropsychological functioning in children with Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Method: The study group consisted of 15 boys between ages 9-13 [year]s, who were refered to our outpatient clinic and had a diagnosis of ADHD. All of the participants were assessed with WISC-R, Visual Memory Span subtest ofWMS-R (VMS), Bender Visual-Motor Gestalt Test (BGT), and Stroop Color and Word Test before and 6 [month]s after the methylphenidate treatment. The data of this study was evaluated by SPSS 13.0 package programefor Windows. Mann-Whitney U test was used to assess differences between pre and post treatment continuous variables. Results: Posttreatment scores of WISC-R and VMS did not change compared with pretreatment scores. But the scores of Stroop and BGT significantly changed after the treatment. Discussion: Although the small sample size limits the interpretation of these results, our study showed the positive effect of methylfenidate treatment on neuropsychological tasks such as motor coordination, resistance to interference, and the power of waiting answer to inappropriate stimulus.
