Amaç: İntihar girişiminde bulunan 2775 kişide cinsiyet arası farklılıklar, yaş grupları ve intihar yöntemleri araştırıldı. Yöntem: 2002 ve 2003 yılında genel bir hastanenin acil servisine intihar girişimi nedeniyle başvuran hastaların retrospektif olarak kayıtları incelendi. Bulgular: Kadınlarda intihar girişim hızı (%68.5) erkeklerden (%31.5) daha yüksek bulundu. Ortalama olarak kadınlarda intihar girişim hızı erkeklerden yaklaşık 2 misli daha fazladır. Kadınlar erkeklerden daha erken yaşta girişimde bulunmaktadır. Seçilen yöntemlerin büyük bir çoğunluğu şiddet içermemektedir. Hastaların %94.9’u reçete edilmiş veya edilmemiş ilaçları, kimyasal maddeleri , haşere öldürücüleri ve diğer toksik maddeleri kullanmıştır. Tartışma:. Objective: Gender differences, age groups
and methods in suicide attempts were investigated
in a sample of 2775 patients. Method:
The registrations of the emergency department
of the general hospital during [year]s 2002 and
2003 were investigated retrospectively.
Results: The female attempted suicide rates
(68.5%) were higher than the male suicide
attempt rates ( 31.5%). On average the rates for
females were 2 times higher then those for men. The female suicide attempters showed suicide
attempts at a much younger age than the males.
Methods used in suicide attempts are mostly
"non-violent". 94.9% of the patients used self
poisoning with prescribed or non-prescribed
medicines, pesticids, herbicides or other toxic
agricultural chemicals. Conclusion: Females
are more vulnerable than males for attempting
suicide. There is a need for better nationwide
continous registration of attempted suicide and
related socio-economic condition as well as
psychiatric morbidity.
