Amaç: Bu araştırmada, ölüme ilişkin algılamalardaki bireysel farklılıkları belirlemek için farklı bir yöntem kullanılarak bir ölçme aracı geliştirilmiştir. Literatürde dile ilişkin bîr sapma olarak nitelendirilen metaforlardan yararlanılarak ölüme ilişkin algıların belirlenmesi amacıyla kullanılan ölçekler, klasik anlamdaki ölçme araçlarına iyi bir alternatif olarak nite­lendirilmektedir. Dilin önemli bir öğesi konumundaki metaforlann kültürel yanlılığının bulunma olasılığının yüksek olması nedeniyle, yurtdışında bu amaçla kullanılan bir ölçme aracının uyarlanması yerine, kültürümüze uygun bir ölçme aracı geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır.
Yöntem: Bu amaçla geliştirilen "Ölüm Metaforları Ölçeği"nin geçerlik ve güvenirlik analizleri, ölçeğin psikometrik niteliklerinin iyi olduğunu göstermiştir.
Bulgular ve Tartışım: İyi bir iç tutarlığa ve test-tekrar test güvenirliğine sahip olan ölçeğin, ayrıca, negatif ve pozitif metaforlardan oluşan kuramsal yapısı da doğrulayıcı faktör analiziyle test edilmiş ve doğrulanmıştır.

Objective: In this research psychometric device was developed in order to define individual differences concerning the
perception of death. As a new way of defining the perceptions of death, the use of metaphors, which is considered as a
variation in [language], is assumed to be a good alternative to classical measures. A new measure suitable to our culture
was developed instead of adapting a scale used abroad because of the high possibility of cultural bias of metaphors.
Method: Validity and reliability studies on Death Metaphors Scale developed as a response to this necessity revealed
that the scale has good psychometric qualities.
Results and Conclusion: Having a good Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and test-retest reliability, the scale was revealed
to be consisted of negative and positive metaphors as revealed by the theoretical framework, which is supported by the
confirmatory factor analysis.
