Ergenlerin Psikiyatrik Belirtileri ve Benlik Saygıları Üzerine Kimlik Bocalamasının Etkileri

Amaç: Kimlik bocalaması, psikiyatrik bozukluklar için yatkınlık oluşturabilir veya psikiyatrik bozuklukların sonucu olarak ortaya çıkabilir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, erkek ergenlerde kimlik duygusu, psikiyatrik belirtiler ve benlik saygısı arasında ilişkileri araştırmaktır.
Yöntem: Çalışmanın örneklemini yatılı bir erkek meslek lisesinin 9ncu, 10ncu ve 11 nci sınıflarının öğrencileri oluşturdu. Deneklere sosyodemog-rafik veri toplama formu, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği, Belirti Tarama Listesi 90-R (BTL 90-R) ve Kimlik Duygusu Değerlendirme Aracı (KDDA) uygulandı. Denekler kimlik bocalaması için KDDA'nın kesim puanına göre iki gruba ayrılarak (Grup I < 70 puan, Grup II > 70 puan), psikiyatrik belirti sıklığı ve benlik saygısı yönünden karşılaştırıldı.
Results: Örneklemedeki deneklerin %16.4'unda kimlik bocalaması saptandı. Grup If deki denekler Grupl'dekilerine oranla anlamı derecede daha yüksek psikiyatrik belirti sıklığına sahipti (p=0.0001). Kimlik duygusu puanları, BTL 90-R'ın genel belirti endeksi ve benlik saygısı puanlan ile anlamlı düzeyde korelasyon gösterdi (r=0.63 and r=0,39, sırasıyla).
Tartışma: Bu çalışmanın sonuçları kimlik bocalaması olan ergenlerin daha sık psikiyatrik belirtilere ve düşük benlik saygısına sahip olacağını göster¬mektedir. Ergenlikteki psikiyatrik belirtilerin kimlik bocalaması ile ilişkisinin saptanması, tedavi planının belirlenmesinde önemlidir.
Consequences of Identity Confusion on Adolescents' Psychiatric Symptoms and Self Esteem
Objective: Identity confusion may predispose to or result from various psychiatric disorders. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationships among sense of identity, psychiatric symptoms and self-esteem in Turkish adolescent males.
Method: The sample consisted of 379 male adolescents who were at 9th, 10th and 11 th grades in a vo¬cational high school. Participants were given a sociodemographic questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), Symptom Check List 90-R (SCL-90-R), and Sense of Identity Assessment Form (SIAF). The subjects were grouped according to the cut-off point for identity confusion (Group I, below 70 points; Group II, 70 points and above for the SIAF scores), and these two groups were compared with each other with regard to psychiatric symptoms and self-esteem levels.
Results: 16.4 % of all subjects showed identity confusion. The general symptom index for psychiatric problems in Group II was significantly higher when compared with those of Group I (p=0.0001). The scores of sense of identity were correlated significantly with the general symptom index scores of the SCL 90-R and self-esteem scores (r=0.63 and r=0.39, respectively).
Conclusion: This study suggests that adolescents who have identity confusion are more likely to have psychiatric problems and low self-esteem. So whether or not the psychiatric symptoms are the ma¬nifestation of underlying identity confusion is an important issue in determining the treatment plan for adolescents.
