Depresyon psikiyatrik bozukluklar arasında en sık karşılaşılan hastalıklardan biridir. Depresif hastaların önemli bir bölümü psikiyatristler dışındaki hekimlere, özellikle pratisyen hekimlere başvurmaktadır. Bu hastaların birinci basamak hekimliğinde doğru ele alınmaları ve doğru yönlendirilmeleri özellikle toplum sağlığı açısından önem taşımaktadır. Bu yazıda depresyondaki bir hastanın birinci basamak hekimine başvurduktan sonra tanınıp tedavi edilmesi için gerekli aşamalar bir akış şeması çerçevesinde gözden geçirilmiştir.
