Bu çalışma, DSM-III-R ölçütlerine göre, süregen şizofrenik bozukluk tanısı alan hastalarda bilişsel yetileri değerlendirmek amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışma grubu olarak yaşları 20-50 arasında, en az ortaokul çıkışlı 50 hasta; kontrol grubu olarak da yaş ve eğitim düzeyi açısından eşleştirilmiş, somatoform bozukluk gösteren 50 hasta alındı. Çalışma ve kontrol grubunun bilişsel yetileri; Kısa Kognitif Muayene (KKM) Çizelgesi, Benton Görsel Bellek Testi, Bender-Gestalt Görsel Motor Algılama Testi aracılığıyla değerlendirildi. Sonuçlar süregen şizofrenik olgularda, kontrol grubuna göre, istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ölçüde bilişsel yetiyitimi olduğunu göstermektedir.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the cognitive functions of schizophrenic patients as defined by DSM-III-R. The sample consisted of schizophrenic patients aged between 20-50 and who had an education of at least 8 [year]s. 50 patients with somatoform disorders who were matched in terms of age and educational level comprised the control group. The cognitive functions in both groups were evaluated by Mini-Mental State Examination, Bender-Gestalt Test and Benton Visual Retention Test. The results showed that schizophrenic group obtained lower scores in all of the tests suggesting some loss in cognitive functions of schizophrenic patients as compared with the control group.
