Bir Mediko-sosyal Merkeze Genel Sağlık Sorunları ile Başvuran Öğrencilerden Psikiyatrik Tanı Alanlarda Bazı Sosyodemografik Özellikler

Amaç: Üniversite öğrenimi yılları boyunca, bu döneme özgü emosyonel ya da sosyal özellikler nedeniyle psikolojik bozukluklar ya da uyum bozukluğu gibi psikiyatrik bozukluklar oldukça yaygındır. Birçok genç yeni arkadaşlar edinmek, aileden ayrılmak, yurt yaşamına uyum sağlamak, ekonomik güçlükler gibi sorunlardan olumsuz etkilenir. Bu çalışmada genel sağlık sorunları nedeniyle Kocaeli Üniversitesi Mediko-sosyal Merkezi’ne başvuran öğrencilerde, cinsiyet, okul başarısı, ekonomik düzey, ailesel sorunların varlığı, iş bulamama korkusu gibi sosyodemografik özelliklerin psikiyatrik tanının varlığı ile ilişkisi araştırılmıştır.
Yöntem: Araştırma Kocaeli Üniversitesi Mediko-sosyal Merkezine Ocak-Nisan 1997 tarihleri arasında başvurmuş toplam 802 üniversite öğrencisi üzerinde yapılmıştır. Öğrencilere sosyodemografik özelliklerin sorgulandığı bir anket formu ile Prime-MD ölçeği Hasta Soru Formu (HSF) ve Klinisyen Değerlendirme Kılavuzu (KDK) uygulanmıştır. Verilerin istatistiksel değerlendirmesinde ki-kare testi kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlara göre, öğrencilerden kızların, yurtta kalanların, maddi ve ailesel sorunu olanların, ders başarısı düşük olanların ve geleceğe yönelik iş kaygısı olanların psikiyatrik tanı alma oranı daha yüksek bulunmuştur.
Sonuç: Sonuç olarak, birçok genç için üniversite eğitimi zorlu bir dönemdir. Genç insanın bu dönemin sorunları ile başa çıkabilmesi için ailenin, okul idarecilerinin, devletin desteği ile yakın ilişki ve rehberlik gerekidir. Bu makalede, araştırmadan elde edilen sonuçlar koruyucu ruh sağlığı hizmetleri bakımından tartışılmıştır.
The Sociodemographic Features of Students with Psychiatric Diagnoses in a University Student Health Center
Objective: Psychological problems and some psychiatric disorders, like adjusment disorders, are common during the university education period because of the social and emotional problems that are encountered in this era. Many young people are negatively affected by problems like having difficulties in making friends, being apart from the family, or adapting to dormitory life. In this study, the students who visited the student health center of Kocaeli University because of physical complaints, are investigated to find out if some sociodemographic status, presence of family problems, fear of unemployment in the future are related with the presence of psychiatric diagnosis.
Method: In this study, 802 students who visited the student health center between January and April 1997 were evaluated using Prime-MD PQ (Patient Questionnaire) and CEG (Clinical Evaluation Guide) and a schedule to screen the socioeconomic features. Chi square test was used for the statistical analysis of the data.
Results: Our results show that the rate of psychiatric diagnosis is higher in female students, in students with lower economic status and with lower grades, as well as in students staying at the dormitory and the ones with a fear of unemployment in the future.
Conclusion: University education period is a difficult time for many young students. An intensive counseling and guidance, and support from family, instructor and government resources are necessary for university students to cope with the problems of this period. In this paper we discussed our results in terms of preventive mental health.
