Tarihsel Sokrates'in düşüncelerine ulaşma çabasına bir girizgâh niteliği taşıyan bu yazıda, pre-Sokratik düşüncede sözün (logos' un) tuttuğu yer aydınlatılmaya çalışıldı. Kutsal olanın ve söyleşinin akıl ve düşünüm lehine inkâr edildiği klasik felsefenin aksine, pre-Sokratik düşüncede ”söz" ün çok daha merkezî bir rol oynadığı iddia edildi. Buradan hareketle, pre-Sokratiklerin tarif ettiği ve geleneksel felsefe tarihlerinde "maddi" ya da "fiziksel" diye nitelenen ilişkilerin, aslında evrenle insan arasında kurulmuş "hasmane bir söyleşi" şeklinde anlaşılması gerektiği sonucuna varıldı. Evrenle insanın aynı logos'un ifadesi olmasının, sözün hakikati taşıması imkânını yarattığını, ancak bu imkânın teminatını yaratmadığı, bu yüzden de pre-Sokratik düşüncenin huzursuz bir düşünce olduğu söylendi. Sözün dönüştürücü gücüne inancın ve bu inanca bağlı olarak, evrene içkin olan huzursuzluğun dışındaki bir sükûnet imkânının, belki de kendisini ancak söyleşi biçiminde ifade eden ve başka şeylerin yanısıra bundan ötürü de, doğmakta olan felsefî düşüncenin henüz doğmamış olan psikanalitik düşünceye en çok yakınlaştığı an olan Sokratik düşünce ile birlikte doğduğu iddiası, daha sonraki yazılarda tartışılmak üzere ortaya atıldı.

This essays in which an attempt is made to clarify the role "word/ logos" plays in pre-Socratic thought, is a prelude to an investigation ofthe thoughts ofthe historical Socrates. It was argued that the relationships which are usually characterized as "materialistic" or "physical" in pre-Socratic thought, are better understood as a relationship of an ”agonistic dialogue" between the cosmos and man. That cosmos and man are the expressions of the same logos creates the conditions of the possibility of human words to carry truth, but it does not offer any guarantees for the satisfaction of these conditions. Hence the restlessness, the disease which is inherent to the pre-Socratic thought. A belief in the transformative power of words and a corollary belief in the possibility of a peace that lies beyond this disease was born first with Socrates. It was also claimed that this moment which represents a moment when classical philosophy with its denial of the sacred and the dialogue is at its budding, comes closest to a psychoanalytical form of thought whose birth lies far ahead.
