Çağımızın giderek "global-yuvarlak" bir görünüm kazanışı sırasında ve karşısında, ortaya çıkan yeni değerler kadar yeni tip toplumsal yapılaşmalar da tıp sanatını ve özellikle de psikiyatriyi etkilemekte, içinde büyük kavram ve tutum kargaşalarına yol açmaktadır. Bu kargaşa karşısında hazırlıklı olduğumuz pek ileri sürülemez. Olan değişiklikleri genellikle bir seyirci gibi izliyor ve bu alanda girişimi genellikle meslek dışı güçlere bırakıyoruz. Psikiyatri aslında yalnızca çeşitli bilimleri uygulamaya yönelik bir sanatsa da, bir sanat olarak temel bir felsefeden yoksun oluşu, değişen koşullara uygun tutumlar takınmasını engelliyor. Tutum kargaşası özellikle metodoloji-yöntem bilim ve etik alanlarında görülüyor. Bunların her ikisi de felsefenin yol göstericiliği olmaksızın netleşemeyecek alanlardır. Bunun için temelli bir felsefe eğitiminin psikiyatri eğitimine entegre edilmesi zorunlu görünüyor. Yazıda etik sorunlar açısından felsefe bilgisinin gerekliliği üzerinde durulmaktadır.

New types of social structuring as well as new values that have emerged in the course of the so-called "globalization " in our time have begun to influence the art of medicine and especially that of psychiatry, causing a great deal of chaos in our concepts and attitudes. We cannot say that we were prepared for this state of affairs. Generally speaking, as psychiatrists we just watch these changes as if we were spectators and leave the interventions to powers outside our professional circles. Psychiatry is mainly a kind of art to bepractised by making use of different types of sciences, but the fact that it is devoid of a basic philosophical outlook has hindered its ability to assume suitable attitudes in the face of changing situations. This chaous of attitudes is particularly seen in the areas of methodology and ethics. These two areas are apparently doomed to staying blurred without the leadership of philosophy. It seems that a basic training in philosophy should be integrated into the training of psychiatry. In this paper, the necessity and importance of a notion of philosophy for the understanding of methodological and ethical issues in psychiatry has been emphasized.
