Amaç: Bu çalışmada WHOQOL ’un kültürlerarası yanıt ölçekleri yöntemine göre, görsel analog ölçekleri hazırlandı ve sınandı. Birçok WHOQOL merkezinde olduğu gibi, özellikle düşük eğitim düzeyine sahip kişilerin bu ölçeklerde başarısız oldular. Yöntem ve Sonuçlar: Güvenirlik sorunu nedeniyle 51 düşük eğitimli kişinin yanıtları, çalışma grubunu oluşturan gruptan (n=228), dışlandı. Sınıf içi korelasyon katsayıları düşük eğitimli grupta çok düşük bulundu. Görsel analog ölçeklerinde başarılı olabilmek için en az 11 yıl eğitim gerekiyordu. Uç noktalar türkçeye çevirildikten sonra şiddet, kapasite, sıklık ve değerlendirme yanıt skalaları için ara belirteçler ilgili kaynak ve sözlüklerden saptandı. Her ölçekte, her belirteç 10 cm uzunlıuğundaki bir doğru üzerinde yer aldı. Tartışma: Her belirtecin ortalama ve değişimleri WHOQOL 'un 15 merkezinde sağlananlara benzer bulundu. Bu çalışmanın en önemli sonucu görsel analog ölçeklerinin düşük eğitimli kişilere dikkatli uygulanması gerektiği idi.

Objective: In this study, according to the WHOQOL Cross-cultural response scale methodology , the visual analog scales were prepaared and tested. Method and Results: As in the most of the WHOQOL centres, an important portion of the low-level educated people has failed to manage Visual Analog Scales. 51 low level educated subjects from the initial study population (n=228) were excluded from the analysis because of the reliability problems. The Intraclass coefficients were very low in the lower level of educated groups. At least 11 years educated subjects were found to be successful in translating their perceptions into a rating on a visual analog scale. After translating anchor points into native language, Visual Analogue Scales were prepared for each of the response scales (intensity, capacity, frequency, and evaluation) from dictionaries and relevant literature. Each descriptor was placed on a 10-cm fresh line in a random order in every scale. Conclision: The mean and the variability of the target descriptors have given similar results with the initial 15 WHOQOL centres. The most important result of this study is that, visual analog scale methodology should have to be used with caution on the lower level of educated subjects.
