Magritte'in ünlü deyişini anımsatan, "Bu bir mektup değildir," diye başlayan bu mektupta yazarın amacı, yazın, tarih, sanat, kısacası yaşamın her alanından olabildiğince çok örnekle, Godot'nun umutsuzlar i fin umut, bir oyunda sadece adı geçen bir karakter olduğu için de gerçek yaşamda bir yanılsama olduğu, dolayısıyla da varolmayan bir şeyden medet ummanın teselli olamayacağını göstermek. In this letter, which opens with "This is not a letter," reminiscent of Magritte, the writer aims at proving with as many examples from literature, history, arts, pop culture, in short, from all walks of life as possible, that Godot is hope for the hopeless, and that Godot is only a mentioned character in a play he is not even in the play and thus an illusion in real life; in other words, like some learned behaviour looking up to some non-existent being is no consolation. At this point, the writer divides people into two: those who believe that Godot is just an illusion and will never come, hence the outsiders, outcasts, the unhappy lot; and those who do not recognize or know any body/thing called Godot, and therefore keep to the motto "ignorance is bliss" hence are naturally happy. Many masks of the ebiquitous Godot are revealed here; e.g. the Winged Man who visited Rembrandt and got upset with the painter's scepticism; the possibility that they can eat chocolate for a whole month, which makes children rob a bank; Godot appears as Elvis the Pelvis, while post-war artists are afflicted by nothingness and are writing manifestos to break the rationalities; possibility that war will end in Verdun; the atomic bomb; the Statue of Liberty in New York; the old man the writer’s mother sees in her dream the day before she gives birth to him, "heralding” that she is finally going to bear a boy, after four girls. Melville's Bartleby, who gives up expecting a Godot, is the writer’s model but the writer does not seem to be approving o f giving in to total despair, and suicide as a solution either. In the end, the writer slightly gives up his mocking and scornful tone and witty style deliberately used to reprimand the devil-incarnate Godot, or to accuse him, yes him, of all misfortunes, catastrophies, in short all human affliction, which implies that Godot should be treated like a vicious, indifferent God, or that Godot is not. The writer's final sentence, however, reveals his doubt as to whether this letter, written when it was snowing heavily in Ankara, Turkey, will reach its destination, which ironically gives away the wish to receive a reply, i.e., Godot is.
