Bu yazıda sosyal fobinin biyolojisiyle ilgili son bilgiler gözden geçirilecektir. Sosyal fobi son yıllara kadar anksiyete bozuklukları içinde göreceli olarak ihmal edilen bir rahatsızlıktı. Bugünlerde ise bu bozukluğun psikobiyolojisine ve psikofarmakolojik tedavisine olan ilgi giderek artmaktadır. Sosyal fobi belli ölçüde kalıtsal olarak belirlenen bir rahatsızlıktır. Şu anki bilgilerimiz sosyal fobide herhangi bir nörobiyolojik sistemde bariz bir bozukluk olduğunu göstermemekle birlikte bazı yeni bulgular sosyal fobide, adrenerjik sistem (özellikle sınırlı tip sosyal fobide), serotonerjik sistem ve dopaminerjik sistemin işe karıştığına işaret etmektedir.

This paper reviews the current knowledge of the biology of social phobia. Among the anxiety disorders social phobia was relatively neglected until recent years. Nowadays there has been a growing interest in the psychobiology and the psychopharmacological treatment of this disorder. Social phobia is to some extent a genetically based disorder. Although the current findings indicate that social phobia is not associated with major disturbance in any neurobiological system, some recent evidence points to the involvement of adrenergic system (especially in discrete social phobia); dopaminergic and serotonergic systems in social phobia.
