Bu çalışmada eş tercihinde dikkate alınan faktörler incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma bir yandan Evrimci Psikolo-jinin konuyla ilgili hipotezlerini test etmek; diğer yan-dan muhtemel eşte aranan özellikleri belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Ankara ve Konya’dan alınan üniversite öğrencileri gruplarına evliliğin anlamı ve eş tercihinde kullanılan ölçütlerin önem dereceleri sorulmuştur. Elde edilen sonuçlar üzerinde çift-yönlü varyans analizi (2X2) tekniği uygulanmıştır. Bulgular Öğrencilerin evliliği öncelikle duygusal beraberlik olarak gördüklerini ortaya koymaktadır: Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, kızların daha çok ekonomik ve toplumsal statü, erkeklerin ise doğurganlık özellikleri aradıkları; Konya’dan alman öğrencilerin geleneksel (muhafazakar), Ankara’dan alınan öğrencilerin ise daha modem (liberal) tercihler yaptıkları görülmektedir. Cinsler açısından çarpıcı sonuç İse kızların daha modem tercihlerde bulunmalarıdır.

The subject of this study is the factors affecting mate preferences. One of the two goals of this study is to test the related hypotheses of Evolutionary Psycho- logy, and the other is to determine the characteristics of possible mate for two sexes. The meaning of marriage and the rank of the criteria used in mate preferences were asked to o group of students from Ankara and Selçuk Universities (Ankara &Konya), Two-way ANOVA (2x2) was used on the obtained result. The students reported that the marriage means essentially “emotional companionship”. Females were found to value cues to economical and social status in potential mates more highly that males, while characteristics signaling reproductive capacity were valued more bay males than by females. The students from Konya made more conservative preferences than the ones from Ankara, while the students from Ankara made more modem (liberal) preferences than the others. The most interesting finding was that females made more modern preferences than males.
