Bu çalışmada çoklu yönetsel işlevleri gerektiren Wisconsin Kart Eşleme Testi'nin (WKET) bileşenlerinden biri olan ketleyici kontrolü ayrıştıran Cinan ve Öktem-Tanör'ün (2002) kullandığı Basit Kart Eşleme Testi kullanılarak ketleyici kontrolün gelişimi incelenmiştir. WKET Basit Formu (WKET-BF) 3 farklı yaş grubundan çocuklara uygulanmıştır: 6-7 yaş grubu, 9-10 yaş grubu ve 11-12 yaş grubu. Çalışmada ayrıca, WKET-BF dışında, yönetsel işlevlere duyarlı olduğu söylenen Bilinen Figürleri Eşleme Testi ve Vuruş Testi kullanılmıştır ve kart eşleme performansıyla ilişkisi araştırılmıştır. WKET'nin orijinalini kullanan çalışmaların (Chelune ve Bear, 1986; Welsh, Pennington ve Groissier, 1991) sonuçlarına paralel olarak, Cinan (2006), yaşa bağlı olarak eşleme performansında değişiklerin olduğunu göstermiş ve WKET'nin ketleyici kontrol dışındaki bileşenlerine odaklandığı araştırmasında, özellikle kavram oluşturma becerisinin gelişiminin 6-12 yaşları arasında sürdüğünü bulmuştur. Önceki çalışmaları tamamlayıcı nitelikte olan buradaki çalışma ise, kavramlar/kurallar hazır olarak verildiği durumda da eşleme performansının yaşa bağlı olarak değiştiğini göstererek ketleyici kontrol becerisinin 6-12 yaşları boyunca gelişmeye devam ettiğine işaret etmektedir.

This study examined the development of inhibitory control by employing the simple version of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) used by Cinan and Öktem-Tanör (2002), who isolated the inhibitory control component of the original test which requires multiple executive processes. The simple version of the WCST was applied to children from 3 different age groups: 6-7, 9-10, and 11-12 years. In addition, the present study employed two other executive tasks, namely Matching Familiar Figures Test (MFFT), and Tapping Task adapted from the tasks used by Becker, Isaac, and Hynd (1987), and the relationship of each of these tests with the card sorting performance was assessed. Consistent with the previous research using the original WCST (Chelune & Bear, 1986; Welsh, Pennington & Groissier, 1991), a significant age effect was found by Cinan (2006) who examined the concept formation and the rule switching components of the WCST by altering visual features of the task; her study in particularly revealed age-related changes in concept formation. The present results complimented those of the previous studies and, moreover, showed that when concepts were readily provided to 6-12 years olds, still an age effect on sorting performance was observed, suggesting that inhibitory control ability continues to develop through the ages of about 6 to 12.
