Sürücü davranışı, trafik psikolojisi içinde farklı açılardan değerlendirilen yaygın bir araştırma konusudur. Bu çalışmaların bazıları dikkat, algı ve muhakeme gibi sürücünün bilişsel özellikleriyle ilişkilidir. Bir çok çalışmada sürücünün bilişsel süreçlerinin sürücülük performanslarını etkilediği gösterilmektedir. Ancak, trafik ortamındaki değişiklikler laboratuar koşullarındaki gibi kontrol edilemez. Dolayısıyla, sürücünün bilişsel süreçlerinden kaynaklanan kaza riski tahmininde genellikle çeşitli değişkenlerin birlikteliği etkisi söz konusudur. Bu makale, bilişsel bir perspektiften sürücülük literatürünün kısa bir özetini sunmakta ve sürücü performansının bozulmasına yol açan algısal ve bilişsel süreçlerin trafik güvenliği açısından etkilerini tartışmaktadır. Son olarak makalede, bilişsel ve psikomotor becerileri ölçmeyi amaçlayan "psikoteknik değerlendirmenin" amacı sorgulanmaya çalışılmaktadır.

Driver behavior, which has been studied from different perspectives, has a broad range of research areas within the framework of traffic psychology. Previous studies have widely investigated the cognitive aspects of driving, such as attention, perception, and reasoning. These studies revealed that cognitive processes have an impact on driving performance. However, it should be emphasized that the variation in the actual traffic environment cannot be strictly controlled as much as in the controlled laboratory conditions. Therefore, the estimation of drivers' accident risk due to cognitive functions was usually confounded by various factors. This article presents a brief overview of the driving literature from the cognitive perspective and discusses the perceptual and cognitive processes concerning the driving performance deficits and its influence on traffic safety. Finally, this paper inquiries the objectives of "the psychotechnical assessment" which aims to test cognitive and psychomotor abilities.
