In our days, it is quite frequent to meet with a new generation of men, who are very tender and dedicated to the care of their children in a very maternal way. Does their caring presence make them a symbolic authority for their children? Sometimes, it does not. So, it would be necessary to articulate the maternal and feminine aspect of the father with his symbolic aspect. The lacanian concept of “the symbolic father” is of great value in our analytic work. However, we cannot consider it as a rigid and unchanging structure and we need to see how it is articulated in the subject’s psychic world.
