Günümüzde Obsesif kompulsif bozukluğun tedavisinde Bilişsel Davranışçı ve Davranışçı yaklaşımlar yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır.Obsesif kompulsif davranışın tedavisinde ilk denemeler davranışçı terapi ve sistematik duyarsızlaştırma ile yapılmıştır.Obsesif kompulsif davranışın tedavisinde pek çok teknik kullanılmıştır; tepki önleme teknikleri, gerçek koşullara maruz bırakma, imgeleme, aversive terapi ve örtük duyarsızlaştırma gibi.Obsesif kompulsif davranışın tedavisinde daha sonraları gelişen bilişsel yaklaşımların temel amacı hastaya endişelerini üstesinden gelmesine yardımcı olmak ve hastanın problemlerine yönelik farklı ve yardımcı bakış açıları benimsemesini sağlamaktır.Bilişsel Davranışçı yaklaşımda ise bir yandan hastanın bilişleri ile çalışılırken, diğer yandan davranışçı ilkelerle kaçınma davranışları ile çalışılmaktadır.. Tedavide kullanılan hem bilişsel hem de davranışçı tekniklerin hastanın hastalığını anlamasına ve hastalıkla baş etme becerileri kazanmasına yönelik olduğu ve bir eğitim niteliği taşıdığı düşünülmektedir.

Today behavioral and cognitive behavioral methods are being widely used in the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder. The first attempts to treat obsessive compulsive behavior by behavior therapy were done by systematic desensitization.Other procedures that have been used at the treatment of obsessive compulsive disorder include response prevention techniques, exposure in vivo,imagination, aversive therapy and covert desensization.The aim of recently developed cognitive therapy approaches is to help the patient to step outside their concerns and adopt an entirely different and more helpful perspectives on their problems.In cognitive behavioral approach, on the one hand patient cognitions have been worked on and on the other hand avoidance behaviors have been worked on with behavioral methods.It is thought that both cognitive and behavioral techniques that have been used at the treatment, have helped the patient to understand his illness and to gain coping skills and have also had educational quality.
