Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, infaz koruma memurları için işyerindeki stres kaynaklarının ve İnfaz Koruma Memurları için İş Stresi Ölçeği’nde yer alabilecek ölçek maddelerinin kalitatif bir çalışmayla belirlenmesidir. Yöntem: En az yüksek lisans diplomasına sahip üç klinik psikolog tarafından infaz koruma memurlarının iş ortamında ve işleri nedeniyle genel yaşamlarında karşılaştıkları stres kaynakları ile ilişkili 13 açık uçlu soru oluşturulmuş ve bu sorular bir klinik psikolog tarafından katılımcılara yöneltilmiştir. Bulgular: Öncelikle, 13 açık uçlu soruya verilen tepkiler temelinde “İnfaz Koruma Memurları için İş Stresi Kaynakları” başlığı altında 111 madde içeren bir iş stresi kaynakları listesi oluşturulmuş ve bu listeye her bir stres kaynağı için kişi sayısı (her bir temanın kaç değişik kişi tarafından değinildiği) ve frekansı (görüşmeler bütününde her bir temanın toplam kaç kez belirtildiği) dahil edilmiştir. Çok az kişi tarafından değinilen ya da frekansı çok düşük olan maddeler liste dışı bırakıldıktan ve birbirine benzer maddeler tek madde altında toplandıktan sonra madde sayısı 35’e inmiştir. Konularına göre bu 35 madde, “rol çatışması ve rol belirsizliği”, “yoğun iş yükü”, “cezaevi ortamındaki fiziksel yetersizlikler”, “tehdit algısı” ve “genel problemler” başlıkları ile beş farklı alt başlık altında gruplanmıştır. Elde edilen ölçek, “İnfaz Koruma Memurları için İş Stresi Ölçeği Ön Çalışması” şeklinde isimlendirilmiştir. Tartışma: Kalitatif bir çalışma çerçevesinde yürütülen bu araştırmadan elde edilen bulgular literatürdeki iş stresine yönelik çalışmalar ile tutarlı gözükmektedir. Ön çalışması tamamlanan bu ölçeğin, alanda ve bilimsel çalışmalarda güvenirli bir şekilde kullanılabilmesi için, ileride yürütülecek olan görgül çalışmalarla ölçeğin psikometrik özelliklerinin test edilmesi ve geçerlik-güvenirlik değerlerinin elde edilmesi gerekmektedir.

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the sources of work stress for correctional officers and to designate items of Work Stress Scale for Correctional Officers by means of qualitative analysis. Method: Thirteen open-ended questions related with stress recourses of correctional officers in work settings and generally in their lives due to their work stress were developed by three psychologists who had at least master degree at clinical psychology, and then these questions were asked to the participants by a clinical psychologist. Results: Initially, based on the reactions given to the 13 open-ended questions, a list including 111 items of sources of work stress were formed under the heading of “The Sources of Work Stress for Correctional Officers”, and the number of individuals (i.e., the number of different individuals who referred to a certain thematic unit) and frequency (i.e., the total number of reference to each thematic unit throughout the interviews in general) of each statement were included into this list. After excluding the items that were referred by a few individuals and had low frequency and combining similar items into one item, the number of items decreased to 35. Based on their contents, these 35 items were grouped under five different categories, namely “role conflict and role ambiguity”, “work overload”, “inadequacies in physical conditions of prison”, “threat perception”, and “general problems”. Obtained scale was named as “A pilot study of Work Stress Scale for Correctional Officers”. Discussion: This study was run as a qualitative study and the obtained results of the study were consistent with the results of the studies related with work stress in the literature. For this scale to be firmly used in the field and researches, empirical studies should examine the psychometric properties of the scale thus reliability and validity results should be obtained.
