Şizofreni genetiği ile ilgili bugüne kadar yapılan çalışmalar bize genetik bir temel olabileceğini göstermiştir. Moleküler genetikteki gelişmelerle birlikte şizofreni genetiğine ilişkin araştırmalarda artış gözlenmiştir. Şizofreninin bağlantı noktaları birkaç kromozom bölgesi üzerinde odaklanmaya başlamıştır. Ayrıca, bazı özgül genler tanımlanmaya başladı. Bu örneklemlerin artarak hızlı gelişen teknolojiyle birleşmesi bize önümüzdeki yıllar içerisinde daha önemli bilgiler sağlayacaktır. Bu bilgiler tanı ve tedavi konusunda yenilikler getirebilecektir.

Genetic studies to date of schizophrenia have shown there may be a significant genetic component for schizophrenia. Advences in molecular genetics have led to increasing the number of genetic researches of schizophrenia. Linkage studies of schizophrenia has focused upon some chromozomal regions and the findings from linkage studies defined spesific genes. Samples for genetic studies of schizophrenia in which developed techniques are used will provide us significant informations. And this informations may lead to the development of diagnostic accuracy and treatments.
