This paper examines emotional aspects of cry ing and not crying. Crying as an instinctual signal for help, prolonged crying filled with fear and anger, not crying hence isolating grief, and crying instead of thinking are all shown. Clinical examples from infancy and psychotherapy with children and parents are given.
