Cinsellik duygusal ve bedensel katılım ile gerçekleşen çok boyutlu bir kavramdır. Dolayısıyla insanı bedensel ve/veya psikolojik olarak etkileyen kronik hastalıklar, özellikle de kanser ve tedavisinin cinsel işlevler üzerinde hem biyolojik hem de psikolojik yönden olumsuz etkileri olacağı söylenebilir. Özellikle de kadınlarda meme ve jinekolojik kanserler, erkeklerde prostat kanseri ve penil kanserler söz konusu olduğunda olumsuz etkinin daha da artması mümkündür. Bu gözden geçirmenin amacı kanser hastalarını cinsel işlevsellik yönünden değerlendirmek ve özellikle de tedavi sonrası yaşam kalitesinde önemli yer alan cinsel işlevselliğin kanser hastalarında değerlendirilmesinin ve cinsel danışmanlığın önemini vurgulamaktır.

Sexuality is a multidimensional concept realized with emotional and physical participation. Therefore, chronic illness that physically and/or psychologically affecting people, especially cancer and its treatment, both biological and psychological negative impacts on sexual life. Especially, when it comes to breast and gynecologic cancers in women and penile cancer and prostate cancer in men, these negative impacts can be increased further. The purpose of this review is to evaluate cancer patients in terms of sexual functioning and is to emphasize the importance of assessment of sexual functioning which are important in quality of life and sexual counseling in cancer patients after treatment.
