Özkıyım sorunu günümüzde giderek önem ka­zanmakta olan bir ruh sağlığı problemi olmakla bir­likte, çok karmaşık sosyokültürel yönleri de bulu­nan bir konudur.
Biz bu çalışmada 1995 yılının ilk 6 ayında Ata­türk Üniversitesi Araştırma Hastahanesi Acil Servi-sî'ne özkıyım girişimi sonrası getirilen 40 olgunun sosyodemografik özellikleri ile özkıyım girişim özel­liklerini ve psikiyatrik tanı dağılımlarını saptamayı amaçladık.
Kırk olgu için araştırmacılar tarafından hazırla­nan, sosyodemografik özellikler ve durum belirle­me amacına yönelik araştırma anket formu doldu­ruldu. Psikiyatrik tanılar DSM IV tanı ölçütleri esas alınarak belirlendi.
Olguların 23'ü kadın, 17'si erkekti ve % 85'i 35 yaşın altındaydı. Olguların % 75'İ şehir merkezle­rinde yaşıyordu ve büyük bölümü ev hanımıydı. Çoğu orta derecede bir sosyoekonomik düzeye sa­hipti. Olguların % 20'si alkol kullanıyorken, % 40'ı daha önce psikiyatrik tedavi görmüştü. Tanı dağılımı açısından en büyük grubu depre-sif bozukluklar oluşturuyordu. Yalnızca 2 olguda
özkıyım girişimi ölümle sonuçlanmıştı.
Ençök başvurulan özkıyım yöntemi (% 57.5) aşırı doz ilaç alımıydı. Olguların yarısından fazla­sında ailesiyle İlgili önemli sorunlar vardı. Olguların büyük bir bolümü özkıyım girişimini akşam saatle­rinde gerçekleştirmişti.

The conflict of suicide has recently been an im­portant mental health problem, and it is also a sub­ject which has complicated socio-cultural points in itself.
In this study, we have tried to examine socio-demographic and clinical features of forty cases who were brought to Atatürk University Research Hospital, Emergency Service after their suicidal at­tempts in the first six [month]s in 1995.
For the purpose of determining the socio-demographic aspects, the inquiry forms prepared by researchers were filled by so-called forty cases. The psychiatric diagnosis were considered by DSM-IV surveys. Of the cases, 23 were female and 17 were male, and 85 percent were under 35 [year]s old. 75 percent of the cases were living in the city centers and most of them were housewives. Again most of them were from middle-class socioeconomic level. While 20 percent of the cases were having alcohol, 40 percent of them did have psychiatric treatment before.
The largest group among the dispersion of di­agnosis in these cases was depressive disorders. Only in two cases the suicides resulted with death.
The most widespread suicide method (% 57.5) was taking medicine in large doses. In more than half of these cases there were family problems, and they mainly committed the suicidal approach in the afternoons or evenings.
