Biyolojik öneminden dolayı, yüksek çekiciliğe sahip yüzlerin görsel dikkat sürecinde seçici olarak işlendiği ve bir dikkat yanlılığı yarattığı bilinmektedir. Buradan hareketle, yapılan çalışmada yüz çekiciliğinin dikkat yanıp sönmesi sürecinde herhangi bir dikkat yanlılığına tıeden olup olmadığı incelenmiştir. Deneyde erkek katılımcılara iki tür hızlı dizisel görsel sunum görevi uygulanmıştır. Görevlerden birinde katılımcılardan, ortalama çekiciliğe sahip kadın yüz fotoğraflarından oluşan uyarıcı dizisi arasındaki, yine ortalama çekiciliğe sahip iki adet hedef yüz fotoğrafını saptamaları istenmiştir. Diğer görevde ise birinci hedef ortalama çekiciliğe salıip yüz fotoğrafı iken ikinci hedef yüksek çekiciliğe sahip bir yüz fotoğrafıdır. Çalışma sonucunda, yüksek çekiciliğe sahip yüzlerin dikkat yanıp sönmesi görevi sırasında bir yanlılık yarattığı ve ikinci hedefin yüksek çekiciliğe sahip olduğu görevde, dikkat yanıp sönmesi etkisinin azaldığı görülmüştür. Sonuçlar evrimsel bir perspektiften tartışılmıştır.

It is known that attractive faces are processed selectively by the attention system and cause attentional bias in a number of visual attention tasks as a result of their biological significance. From this point of view, in the present study it was examined that whether facial attractiveness causes attentional bias in the attentional blink process. In the experiment, male participants were presented with two rapid serial visual presentation tasks. In one of the tasks, participants were asked to detect two moderately attractive female target faces within a group of other moderately attractive female faces. In the other task, while the first target was a moderately attractive face, the second target was a very attractive female face. The results indicated that very attractive female faces cause a bias in the attentional blink task that is, where the second target was very attractive face, attentional blink effect is attenuated. The results were discussed in an evolutionary perspective.
