Throughout the paradigmatic example of Woody Allen, this article attempts to show how humour not only alleviates a painful and traumatic experience, but can also restore a wounded narcissism through compensation. Humour may become systematic for the humorist. The object is treated in a particular mode, midway between perverse hold and control. The humorist's solitude is related to the fact that humour meets the void which inhabits language, thus leading towards death's unrepresentability. The humorist fabricates his psychical life and takes pleasure from the absolute absurdity of death.
