This paper aims to focus on the changes that take place during adolescence, how conflicts of the past and the new ones challenge the adolescent’s struggle to attain an identity of his own. Narcissisism of adolescents is discussed, not only as a developmental aspect ol that phase but also in terms of how today’s society and the world we live in with its narcissistic values/ tendencies have an effect on the adolescent’s narcissism. Special attention is also given to difficulties experienced by the adolescent’s parents, who need to give up both their own narcissistic expectations of themselves as parents and of their adolescents. Their struggle to be understanding, non retaliating, yet surviving adults against their adolescents’s upheaval, while at the same time, not forgetting the importance of their adult presence of representing reality and responsibility. Finally, the psychotherapy with adolescents, as an area where all developmental conflicts are displayed, is underlined.
