The author describes the basic aspects of the process of consultation of couples in distress, ranging from circumstances of consultation to psychoanalytic work. Regarding the preliminary interviews, he considers the main characteristics of the setting of the consultation, the multidimensional investigation of various areas of the conjugal life, the requests and the first transference and counter-transference movements. Then, he questions the indications and counter-indications for a couple therapy. After establishing the good indication, he presents the therapeutic frame, with its rules and functions. Next, the author develops some technical features of the analytic work comprising at first, a stage of verbalization and symbolization. As for the work of interpretation, he considers three levels, namely: group, intersubjective and individual-intrapsychic. Finally, he takes into account the objectives and benefits expected from such a therapy.
