The History of Psychoanalytic Training
The author points out to the fact that, as an answer to the question of how to become a psychoanalyst, psychoanalytic training has been one of the crucial fields of debate since the emergence of psychoanalysis. He states that S. Freud first spoke of autoanalysis, but soon afterwards talked about a psychoanalytic work carried out with a competent psychoanalyst. With the foundation of International Psychoanalytical Association it has been a necessity to establish rules concerning psychoanalytical training and the first concrete steps have been taken by the Berlin Psychoanalytic Institute. The author then goes on to describe the first model, i.e., Eitington model, its features, the debates over this model and the features of a new model, namely the French model, which has come forth in the meantime . These models are compared and contrasted with the others and each model is analyzed in terms of their weakness and strengths.
