Frontotemporal demansın klinik gidişatında izlenen kişilik ve davranış değişimleri, apati, tekrarlayıcı kompulsiyon benzeri davranışlar, disnihibisyon, içgörü yokluğu özellikle erken evrelerde tanıda sorun oluşturur. Frontotemporal demans olgularına yanlış biçimde psikotik bozukluk, depresyon, geç başlangıçlı bipolar afektif bozukluk tanıları konabilir. Duygu durumu bozukluğu olan hastaların ilerleyen yaşlarda kognitif disfonksiyon ve demans gelişimi için risk taşıdığı da bildirilmiştir. Bu olgu serisinde uzun süre bipolar afektif bozukluk tanısı ile izlendikten sonra ileri yaşlarda frontotemporal demans tanısı alan 4 olgu bipolar afektif bozukluk ile frontotemporal demans arasındaki ilişkinin literatür ışığında incelenmesi amacıyla sunulmuştur.

Personality and behavioral changes, apathy, stereotypic and compulsive behaviors, disnihibition, lack of insight seen in the clinical course of frontotemporal dementia, creates a problem in diagnosis, especially in the early stages of disease. Frontotemporal dementia cases may be misdiagnosed as psychotic disorder, depression, late-onset bipolar affective disorder. Advancing age of the patients with mood disorders has also been reported to be at risk for the development of cognitive dysfunction and dementia. In this case series, 4 cases that diagnosed as frontotemporal dementia after being monitored for a long time with a diagnosis of bipolar affective disorder will be reported. The relationship between bipolar affective disorder and frontotemporal dementia and the relevant literature will be discussed.
