The article begins with some metapsychological thoughts concerning play and narcissism. The author emphasizes the differences between psychodrama and the dual relation, especially when it is rendered impossible due to the extreme seductiveness inherent to it. Then he develops some thoughts about play , in the sense of “making as if’. The patient in psychodrama is a subject who is playing but at the same time the one who is been played. The play in psychodrama aims to defeat the defensive operations of the subject which make him feel allienated. The separation issue in psychic life is being handled in psychodrama with the help of the double. The double is a “similar" object which enables a sort of triangulation which is not oedipal at the beginning but having meanwhile the potential of becoming one. The handling of separation with the help of a double is illustrated with two case presentations
