Bu çalışmanın amacı Beck umutsuzluk Ölçeğinin eş zamanlı ayırdedici geçerliğini İncelemek ve faktör yapısını belirlemektir. Çatışmanın örneklemi normal, psikiyatrik bozukluğu ve kanser, epilepsi, kronik böbrek yetmezliği gibi fiziksel hastalığı olan 15-65 yaştan arasında 373 denekten oluşmuştur. Ömeklem grubu üzerinde yapılan analizler sonucunda BUÖ geçerli bir ölçek olduğu bulunmuştur. Faktör analizi sonucunda ölçeğin orijinal faktör yapısına benzer, 'gelecekle ilgili duygular", "motivasyon kaybı" ve "umut" olmak üzere üç faktörden oluştuğu görülmüştür.

The purpose of this study was to determine the concunent and discriminant validity of the Beck Hopelessness Scale. As well as to investigate the factor stmcture of the scale. The sample of the study consisted of normal, psychiatric and non-psychiatric patients who have somatic illness such as cancer, epilepsy, chronic renal failure. BHS were given to 373 subjects between 15-65 [year]s of age. The analyses with the scale showed that BHS is a valid instrument for measuring hopelessness in pschiatric disorders and in somatic illness. Factor analysis yielded 3 factors labeled "feelings about the future", "Loss of motivation" and "hope" which is simitar to the original scale.
