Çocuk yaştakiler için kronik bir hastalık deneyimlemek fiziksel, psikolojik ve sosyal birçok soruna yol açar. Bu sorunlar hasta çocuk ile çevresindekilerin günlük yaşamında engeller oluşturur ve onları duygusal olarak yıpratır. Bu nedenle hasta çocuk ve çevresindekiler, hastalık sürecinde sosyal ve psikolojik desteğe ihtiyaç duyarlar. Bu yazıda kronik bir hastalığı olan çocuğun ve çevresindekilerin hastalık sürecindeki tepkileri ve bu tepkileri uygun bir biçimde ele alacak psikososyal yaklaşımlar hakkında bilgi vermek amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla 1991-2009 yılları arasında yayımlanan yerli ve yabancı makaleler ve kitaplar taranarak elde edilen bilgilerle derlenmiştir. Elde edilen bilgiler, kronik hastalığı olan çocukların ve ailelerinin hastalık sürecinde birçok ortak sorun yaşadığına ve bu süreçte kendilerine sunulacak psikososyal desteğin son derece önemli olduğuna işaret etmektedir. Psikolojik destek verecek olan psikologların ve tedavi ekibinin tedavi yaklaşımlarını belirlerken dikkat etmesi gerekenler hakkında bilgi edinmesi ve bu bilgiler çerçevesinde hizmet sunması, sürecin en iyi şekilde atlatılabilmesi için gereklidir. Bu süreçte tedavi ekibi kadar psikolojik destek sağlayan psikologlar da, dikkate alınması gerekenler hakkında en iyi şekilde bilgilendirilmeli ve bu bilgiler çerçevesinde hizmet vermelidir.

Experiencing a chronic illness can result in a number of physical, psychological and social problems within a child. These problems can create obstacles, such as emotional exhaustion, in the daily lives of both the infected children and those who surround them. Therefore, the need for both social and psychological support should be considered when treatment is initiated. In this article we aim to provide information on the reactions of both the children and their family during the lifetime of the disease as well as the psychosocial approaches which address these reactions appropriately. To this end, we have researched local and foreign articles published between 1991 and 2009 and combined the findings with information obtained from relevant books. The findings suggest that many common problems arise within children who are infected with chronic illnesses and the families involved. Additionally, this report includes the significant effects of psychosocial support offered to children and family groups. To begin the healing process, psychologists will provide specialized support to the patients as well as information to the treatment team regarding what should be considered when determining treatment approaches.
