103 olgu üzerinde yapılan bu çalışmada, özkıyım girişimi ile total serum kolesterol düzeyi arasında bir bağlantı olup olmadığı ortaya koyulmaya çalışılmıştır. Sonuç olarak düşük total kolesterol ile ciddi özkıyım girişimi arasında bir bağlantı -olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu bağlantı hem erkek hem de kadın olgular için geçerlidir.

Elde edilen bu sonucun bir neden mi yoksa sonuç mu olduğunu ortaya koyabilmek amacıyla bazı parametrelere de çalışmamızda yer verilmiştir. Sonuçta, incelenen parametreler, elde edilmiş olan bu bağlantının sekonder olmaktan çok primer bir boyutta olduğunu göstermiştir.

Elde edilen sonuca karşın, bu önemli konu üzerinde ileri çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır. Şimdiye kadar yapılan çalışmalar bu bağlantnın nedenini ortaya koyamamıştır. Bundan sonraki çalışmalar bu bağlantıyı açıklayabilmek ve özkıyım girişimini önceden kestirebilmek açısından önem taşımaktadır. Buna koşut olarak belki de, özkıyım davranışının etyolojisini de aydınlatmak ve son zamanlarda üzerinde çokça durulan serotonin-kolesterol ilişkisini ortaya koyabilmek mümkün olabilecektir.

In this study which is performed on 103 cases, it was aimed to investigate whether there is a relationship between suicide attempt and total serum cholosterol levels. As a result, it is observed that low total cholesterol level is associated with serious suicide attempts. This relationship is confirmed both for men and women.



In our stiidy some parameters were also used for understanding whether the results were a reason or a result. At the end, the evaluation of these parameters showed that the relationship is a primary rather than a secondary.



In spite of this results, investigations are necessary on this important subject. The studies till today, could not have explained the reason of this relationship. The further investigations are important to estimate the suicide attempt and to clarify this association. According to this it may be possible to clear up the etiology of suicide behaviour and the connection of serotonin-cholosterol level, which is frequently insisted on recent investigations.
