Nöromusküler hastalıkların tanısında hemen herzaman, elektrofizyolojik yöntemlere başvurulmaktadır. En sık kullanılan yöntemler sinir iletim çalışması ve iğne elektromyografi (EMG) olmakla birlikte, nöromusküler ileti hastalıklarında ardısıra sinir uyarımı ve tek lif EMG'ye de gündelik uygulamalarda ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Bu yazının amacı bu yöntemlere eleştirisel bir gözle bakarak yararlılık ve kısıtlılıklarını klinisyenlere sunmaktır. Böylece oldukça zahmetli ve zaman alıcı olan bu yöntemlerin daha akılcı kullanılması umulmaktadır.

Electrophysiological methods are often used in the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders. Although the most frequently employed methods are nerve conduction studies and needle electromyography (EMG), patients are often referred for repetitive nerve stimulation and single fiber in daily practice. The purpose of this review is to make a critical assessment of the neurophysiologic methods and present the advantages and limitations of these studies. It is hoped that the clinician will gain sufficient insight after reading this review to use these rather uncomfortable and time consuming tests on a more rational basis.
