Amaç: Son yıllarda ülkemizde sokakta yaşayan ve çalışan çocukların sayısında belirgin bir artış olmuştur.
Çocuk ve ergenlerde her ne sebeple olursa olsun sokak yaşantısının başlaması sonucunda çocukların
sosyal destek sistemleri zayıflar. Sokağın olumsuzlukları onları daha fazla etkisi altına alır. Bu çalışmada sokak
yaşantısı (SY) olan ve olmayan ve madde kullanım sorunu olan ergenleri bazı klinik ve sosyodemografik
özellikler açısından değerlendirerek bu iki grup arasındaki olası farklılıkları belirlemeyi amaçladık.
Yöntem: Ege Üniversitesi Çocuk ve Ergen Alkol, Madde Bağımlılığı Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi'ne
(EGEBAM) Eylül 2003 ile Kasım 2005 tarihleri arasında başvuran tüm hastaların dosyaları tarandı. Bu olgulardan
yalnızca sigara içenler ve herhangi bir madde kullanmayanlar çalışmaya alınmadı. Önceden tarafımızca
hazırlanmış olan bazı klinik ve sosyodemografik özelliklerin sorgulandığı bilgi formu dolduruldu. İstatistiksel
değerlendirme için SPSS?11 paket programı kullanıldı.
Bulgular: Dosya taraması sonucunda 328 olguya ulaşıldı. Bu olguların 20'si sigara dışında herhangi bir
bağımlılık yapıcı madde kullanmadıkları için çalışmaya alınmadı. 308 olgunun %39.6?sının SY olduğu,
%60.4'ü nün SY olmadığı belirlendi. Bu grupları cinsiyet, (0.046), madde kullanmaya başlama yaşı (0.000),
ilk tedaviye başvurma yaşı (0.000), sigaraya başlama yaşı (0.015), 2, 3, 4, 5 kardeşi olması (sırasıyla 0.014,
0.001, 0.002, 0.011); ebeveynlerin evli ve ayrı olması (0.000); anne ve babanın 0?5 yıl arasında ya da 6
yıl ve daha çok eğitim alması (sırasıyla 0.006, 0.000); babanın sağ-ölü olması (0.048); okul yaşamından
kopma, okulda sene kaybı (0.000); kullanılan madde türü (esrar-0.001-, uçucu-0.000- ve alkol-0.000-);
suç unsuru olabilecek davranışların olması (0.000) açısından değerlendirdiğimizde gruplar arası fark istatistiksel
olarak anlamlıdır. Bununla birlikte ailede madde kullanım öyküsü (0.775) ve ilk maddeye başlama
ile tedaviye başvurmaya kadar geçen süre (0.354) açısından değerlendirildiğinde fark istatistiksel anlamlılık
düzeyinde değildir.
Sonuç: Çocuk ve ergenler çok farklı nedenlerle madde kullanmaktadır. SY bu nedenlerden birisidir. SY
olan ve olmayan ergenleri değerlendirdiğimizde hem klinik hem de sosyodemografik özellikleri açıdan
önemli farklılıkları olduğu saptanmıştır. Yineleyen çalışmalarla bu farklılık daha da aydınlatılmalıdır.

Objective: Within the last couple of [year]s there has been a significant increase in the number of adolescents, who live and work in the street.
Street life leads to a decrease in the social supportive system of those children and adolescents and the adverse conditions of the street life
have an additional negative effect on this population. In this study, we aimed to determine the clinical and sociodemographical differences
between the adolescents with substance abuse in terms of the presence or absence of street life experiene.
Method: The files of adolescents who had been admitted to the Ege University, Child and Adoelscent Alcohol and Substance Dependence
Center (EGEBAM) between September 2003 and November 2005 were screened retrospectively. Patients with only nicotine dependence
were not taken into the study. A sociodemographic and clinical information form prepared by the writers was filled for each participant. SPSS-
11 package program was used for the statistical assessment.
Results: 328 adolescents were reached at the end of file scanning. 20 of them were not taken into this study since they only had nicotine
dependency. Among 308 individuals, 39.6% had street life while 60.4 % didn?t. The difference between groups in terms of gender (0.046),
substance use starting age (0.000), nicotine use starting age (0.015), the number of siblings (2,3,4 and 5; in order 0.014, 0.001, 0.002, 0.011);
parents living together or seperated (0.000); parents? educational status (0-5 [year]s and 6 or more [year]s; in order 0.006, 0.000); fathers? being
alive or not (0.048); going to school and having any [year]s loss in the school or not (0.000); type of the substance used (heroin, volatile and
alcohol use; in order 0.001, 0.000, 0.000); was statistically significant in terms of behaviours leading to crime (0.000). On the other hand the
difference was not statistically significant when two groups were compared in terms of history of substance use in the famliy (0.775) and the
time passed since the beginning of substance use to the beginning of the treatment (0.354).
Conclusion: The children and adolescents use substance due to many different reasons.Street life experience is one of these reasons. When
we evaluated the adolescents, we found that there were significant differences in terms of clinical and socio demographical features of ones
who lived in street and who did not. This difference should be enlighted with future studies.
