Psikiyatride kriz kavramı pek de uzun bir geçmişi olmayan, bugünkü anlamıyla yerleşmesi oldukça yeni sayılan bir kavramdır. Kriz, zorlayıcı yaşam olaylarını izleyen bir dönem, bir dönüm noktası olarak tanımlanır. Kriz, patolojik bir durum değildir. Ancak yeterince ve uygun bir biçimde ele alınmazsa potolojik durumlara özellikle psikolojik sorunlara neden olur. Bu yüzden kriz kavramı, psikiyatriyle uğraşan herkesin bilmesi gereken bir kavramdır. Yazıda kriz kavramı ve krize müdahalenin temel ilkeleri gözden geçirilmiştir.

Crisis, as a concept in the field of psychiatry is one without a remote history, it has not been long since it has settled in to it's current position. Crisis is defined as a period of time following stressful life events; a turning point It is not a pathological state, however, if not managed well it can lead to pathological consequences.
