Psikoonkoloji, kanserli hastalardaki ruhsal hastalıkların fenomenolojisi, önlenmesi ve tedavisi ile psikolojik faktörlerin kanserin başlangıç ve gidişindeki rolüyle ilgilenir. Bu yazıda kanser kavramı, hastaların yaşamı ve fonksiyonları üzerindeki etkileri, kanser tanısına bağlı oluşan psikiyatrik sorunlar, tedavileri ve psikoonkolojide konsültasyon liyezon psikiyatristinin rolü gözden geçirilmiştir.

Psychooncology concerns the phenomenology, prevention, and the treatment of psychiatric illnesses in cancer patients and the role of psychological factors in the onset and progression of cancer. In this paper cancer, its effects on patients’ lives and functioning, psychiatric problems due to cancer diagnosis, their treatments and the role of consultation liaison psychiatrist in psychooncology are reviewed.
