Erişkinlikte otizm seyrek değildir ve psikiyatrlar bu hastalığı sıklıkla şizofreniyle karıştırarak yanlış tanı
koyarlar. Otistik hastalarda erişkinlikte ortaya çıkan şizofreni benzeri semptomlar bu karışıklığın
nedeni olabilir.
Erişkin otizmiyle şizofreni arasındaki en önemli klinik fark stereotip davranışlarda ve konuşmadadır.
Şizofrenideki stereotipi anksiyolitik yapıda, otizmdeki stereotipi ise hedonistik yapıdadır. Erişkin otistik
hastalar daima çevrelerinin farkındadır ve iç konuşmaları nedeniyle suskundurlar; şizofrenik
hastalar ise kendi çevreleriyle fazla ilgili değildir. Öte yandan, şizofrenik stereotipi amaçsız ve spontandır; otistik stereotipi ise rutin ısrarı gibi bir amaca sahiptir ve görece isteklidir. Biz burada bu
özellikleri gösteren iki erişkin tip otizm vakasını bildirmek istedik.

Autism during adulthood is not rare and psychiatrists often misdiagnose this disorder as schizo­phrenia. This may be due to the schizophrenia like symptoms which are appeared in autistic patients during adulthood.
The most important clinical difference:between adult autism and schizophrenia is in the stereo­typic behaviour and speech. Schizophrenic stereotype has anxiolytic and autistic one has hedonistic structure. Adult autistic patients are always aware of their environment and they are mute because of their inner speech, but schizophrenicc patients are not interested with their own environment very well. On the other hand, schizophrenic stereotype is aimless and spontaneous, while the autistic stereotype has an aim such as an assurance of sameness, and is relatively voluntary. In this article; we published two autistic-patients during-adulthood.
