Botulinum Toksini (BT) insanlarda 20 yılı aşkın süreden beri güvenle kullanılmaktadır. Distoni, spastisite ve kas aşırı aktivitesi ile belirti veren diğer hastalıklarda BT yaygın olarak uygulanmaktadır. BT, nöromüsküler bileşke ve otonomik sinapslarda asetilkolin salınımını önleyerek etki eder. Toksinin yedi farklı serotipi vardır ve herbiri moleküler düzeyde spesifik aktiviteye sahiptir. Botulinum Toxin (BT) has been used safely in humans for more than 20 [year]s. BT treatment has been used exten­sively for the treatment of dystonia, spasticity, other disor­ders in which muscle overactivity gives rise to symptoms. BT act by preventing release of acetylcholine into the neu­romuscular junction and autonomic synapses. There are seven different serotypes of the toxin, each with a specific activity at the molecular level. This review includes on the pharmacology, immunology, and applications of BT.
