Kanserde psikiyatrik morbidite ve psikososyal sorunlar sık ve yoğundur. Hastalığa eşlik eden psişik sendromlar, hastanın uyumuna, yaşam kalitesine ve hastalığın seyrine, tedaviye cevabına etkilidir. Bu çalışmada kanserde tanı, tedavi ve seyrinde sıklıkla ortaya çıkan psikiyatrik bozukluklar, bu alandaki çağdaş araştırma bulguları ve kısaca tedavi yöntemleri sunulmaktadır. Konsültasyon-liyezon psikiyatrisi çerçevesinde psikoonkoloji alanında, kanserli hastanın tedavi ve bakımmda psikiyatrik işbirliği gerektiren sendrom ve sorun alanlan ve hastanın tıbbi-psikiyatrik bütüncül izlenmesinin ilkeleri anlatılmaktadır.

Psychiatric and psychosocial morbidity are often associated with cancer. These psychological syndromes effect the adjustment and life quality of the cancer patient and also the prognosis and response to treatment of the disease. In this review, the major mental disorders associated with cancer at various stages of the disease, the results of the scientific studies in this area and contemporary treatment modalities are presented. The clinical problem areas concerning the integrative medical-psychiatric treatment and care of the cancer patient are discussed. The contemporary principles and mechanisms of colloboration between oncology and psychiatry (psycho-oncology) are discussed within the general framework of consultation-liaison psychiatry which is the medical-psychiatric disciple concerned with the psychiatric care of the medical patients.
