Amaç: Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, Beden Saygısı Ölçeği’nin Türkçe geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışmasının yürütülmesidir. Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklemi İzmir’de bir devlet üniversitesinin Diş Hekimliği Fakültesi ile Sosyal ve Beşeri Bilimler Fakültesi’nde öğrenim gören toplam 459 gönüllüden oluşmuş olup, katılımcılara kolayda örnekleme tekniğiyle ulaşılmıştır. Beden Saygısı Ölçeği (BSÖ), Vücut Algısı Ölçeği (VAÖ), Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği (RBSÖ) ve katılımcıların kişisel bilgileri ile Beden Kitle İndekslerinin (BKİ) sorgulandığı Demografik Bilgi Formu veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: BSÖ toplam puanı için elde edilen iç tutarlılık katsayısı 0.94 olarak hesaplanmış olup, test-tekrar test güvenirliği değeri de 0.74 olarak bulunmuştur. Gerek açımlayıcı gerek doğrulayıcı faktör analizinde ölçeğin orijinal formuna uyumlu üç boyutlu ve iyi uyum gösteren bir modele ulaşılmıştır. Ölçüt bağıntılı geçerlik açısından, ölçek toplam puanının VAÖ ve RBSÖ ile pozitif, BKİ ile negatif yönlü anlamlı ilişki gösterdiği görülmüştür. Sonuç: BSÖ’nün Türkçe formunun geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçüm aracı olduğuna ilişkin kanıtlar sağlanmıştır.

Objective: The main aim of this research was to carry out a validity and reliability study for the Turkish version of the Body Esteem Scale. Method: The study sample consisted of 459 volunteers studying at the faculty of dentistry and the faculty of humanities and social sciences of a state university located in Izmir. Data were collected using the Body Esteem Scale (BES), Body Cathexis Scale (BCS), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and a Demographic Information Form that recorded participants’ Body Mass Index (BMI) and personal information. Results: The internal consistency coefficient for the total BES score was 0.94 and test-retest reliability was found to be 0.74. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis found a well-fit three-dimensional model consistent with the original scale. Regarding criterion validity, the total BES score positively correlated with BCS and RSES scores while being significantly and negatively associated with BMI. Conclusion: Evidence has been provided that the Turkish version of the BES is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
