Bu çalışmanın amacı kişisel bir yaşantının kişi tarafından ne derece merkezi algılandığını ölçen Olayların Merkeziliği Ölçeği’ni (OMÖ) ve bu ölçeğin kısa versiyonunu Türkçeye uyarlamaktır. Araştırmaya Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi’nden 300 lisans öğrencisi katılmış, ölçeğin psikometrik özellikleri hem olumlu, hem olumsuz duygusal içeriklere sahip otobiyografik anılar için test edilmiştir. Olayların kişinin benliğinin merkezinde konumlandırılması, hayat hikayesinde bir dönüm noktası olarak algılanması ve başka olayları yorumlarken bir referans noktası olarak kullanılmasını ölçmek üzere geliştirilen maddelerden oluşan ölçeğin tek faktörden oluştuğu gözlenmiş, böylece orijinal faktör yapısı bu çalışmada tekrarlanmıştır. Ölçeğin iç tutarlılık güvenirlik Cronbach alfa katsayısı olumlu otobiyografik anılarda .95, olumsuz otobiyografik anılarda .91 değerindedir. Yedi maddeden oluşan OMÖ Kısa Versiyonu’nun güvenirlik değerleri de oldukça yüksek gözlenmiş, olumlu ve olumsuz otobiyografik anılar için Cronbach alfa katsayısı sırasıyla .89 ve .82 olarak hesaplanmıştır. Aşırı stres verici yaşantıların merkezi algılanması travma sonrası stres belirtileri ile pozitif yönde ilişki gösterirken (r = .36, p < .001), olumlu anılarda anlamlı bir ilişki gözlenmemiştir

The purpose of the present study is to adapt the Centrality of Events Scale and its short version that measure how central an event to an individual into Turkish. 300 undergraduate students from Dokuz Eylul University participated in the study. The psychometric properties of the scale were tested for both positively and negatively valenced autobiographical memories. Items that measure whether the event was perceived as a central component of personal identity, whether the event was regarded as a turning point in the life story, and whether the event had become a reference point for the attribution of meaning to other experiences in the person’s life were best presented by a one-factor solution. That is, the original one-factor structure of the scale was replicated in the present study. The Cronbach’s alpha for internal consistency reliability was .95 for positive autobiographical memories and .91 for negative autobiographical memories. The short 7-item scale also had high reliability values (.89 for positive autobiographical memories and .82 for negative autobiographical memories). The scale was positively correlated with post-traumatic stress symptoms for highly stressful events (r = .36, p < .001), but not for positive events.
