Amaç: Bu çalışmada, üniversite öğrencilerinde madde kullanma durumları ile problem çözme becerileri arasındaki ilişki araştırılmıştır. Yöntem: Kesitsel ve analitik tipte planlanan araştırmanın örneklemi, 10.05.2013–15.06.2013 tarihleri arasında Bitlis Eren Üniversitesi Sağlık Yüksekokulu Hemşirelik bölümünde okuyan 115 öğrenciden oluşmaktadır. Kişisel bilgi formu ve Problem Çözme Envanteri (PÇE) veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Veriler yüzdelik, Mann Whitney U testi analizleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %33’ü sigara kullandığını, %12.2’si uyuşturucu madde kullanma deneyimi olduğunu belirtmiştir. Bu çalışmada sigara içen öğrencilerin PÇE ve alt boyutlarından “problem çözme güveni” ve “yaklaşma kaçınma” sıra puan ortalamaları sigara içmeyenlere göre daha yüksek düzeydedir Sonuç: Araştırma bulguları, öğrencilerin sigara içme ve madde kullanma oranının yüksek olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca sigara içen öğrencilerin problem çözme becerisi içmeyenlere oranla daha düşük düzeyde çıkmıştır. Sorun çözme becerileri eğitiminin madde bağımlılığının önlenmesi, tedavisi ve rehabilitasyonunda yararlı olabileceği düşünülmektedir

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between nursing students' substance use status and problem solving skill. Material and Methods: The sample of the research, planned as a sectional and analytical type of study, consists of 115 students studying at Nursing Department of Bitlis Eren University Health College between the dates 10.05.2013 and 15.06.2013. The Personal information form and Problem Solving Inventory were used as data collection tool. Data was evaluated by percentage, Mann-Whitney U test analysis. Results: According to the nursing students' statements, 33% of them used cigarettes and 12.2% of them had drug-using experience. In this study, smoking students’ row mean scores of Problem Solving Inventory and "problem solving confidence" and "approach/abstinence” that are subscales of Problem Solving Inventory, are higher than the non smoker students'. Conclusion: The research findings indicate that smoking and substance using ratio of students is high. And also smoking ratio of students with lower problem solving skill is higher than the students with higher problem solving skill. This result shows that problem solving training programs might be useful for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of substance abuse.
