Diyabet prevelansı giderek artan, iyi yönetilmediğinde, sağlığı tehdit eden ve yaşamı tehlikeye atacak kronik birçok komplikasyona yol açan ciddi ve yaşam boyu süren bir halk sağlığı sorunudur. Birey için diyabetin kendisi hastalık olarak bir stres faktörü olmakla birlikte özellikle de uyulması gereken birçok yaşam tarzı değişiklikleri yoğun kaygı ve stres yaşanmasına neden olmaktadır. Bu nedenle, diyabet tanısı almasıyla başlayan bireyin mücadelesinde; fiziksel sorunları ele almanın yanında, yaşayacağı duygusal tepkileri de değerlendirmek gereklidir. Bu makalenin amacı, değinilen başlıklarla diyabetli bireylerin hastalıkları sürecinde yaşayabilecekleri deneyimlere ve psikososyal değerlendirmenin önemine dikkat çekmektir.

Diabetes is a serious and lifelong public health problem that leads to many chronic complications that threaten health and endanger life when not well managed. Its prevalence is steadily increasing. While diabetes itself is a stress factor for the individual, the many lifestyle changes that must be observed also cause intense anxiety and stress. For this reason, in the struggle immediately after receiving the diabetes diagnosis, it is necessary to also consider the emotional reactions to be experienced in addition to the physical problems. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to the importance of psychosocial assessment and to highlight the various experiences that diabetic individuals might go through.
