Mutluluk kavramı Yunan düşüncesinde Aristoteles tarafından ahlak felsefesinde tercih kavramı ile birlikte düşünülmüştür. Bir tür iyi yaşama durumuna gönderme yapan mutluluk, ancak eylemler aracılığıyla ortaya çıkar. İnsanın eylemleri seçim, tercih, isteme, arzu, tutku kavramları aracılığıyla gerçekleşir. Aristoteles bu kavramları tahlil ederek kendisini bilen ve kendisine egemen olan bir kişinin iyice düşünüp taşınması sonucu ortaya çıkan tercihlerin bizi mutluluğa götüreceğini iddia etmektedir. Dolayısıyla tercih, karar verme sürecinden önce gelen ve nasıl bir mutluluk istenildiğine dair kişisel bir öngörü gerektiren ve bu öngörünün yaşama geçmesi için hangi eylemin neden yapılacağı ve dolayısıyla diğerlerinin neden yapılmayacağı üzerinde iyice düşünüp taşınıp bu düşünceye uygun eylemektir. Aristoteles‟in kurduğu ilişki, Kahneman‟ın 1. Sistem – 2. Sistem düşüncesiyle tekrar değerlendirilebilir. Buna göre çabuk ve hızlı olan 1. Sistem arzu ve tutkularla, yavaş ve düşünümsel olan 2. Sistem isteme ve tercihle ilgilidir. Bu bağlamda karar verme sürecinde Aristoteles‟in seçimden ayırdığı ve mutluluğa sağlayan yeti olarak gösterdiği tercih, modern insanın kararlarında seçime indirgenmiştir.

The concept of „happiness? in Greek thought was thought by Aristotle together with the concept of „deliberate-choice?. Happiness which refers to a kind of well-being appears only through human actions. These actions are connected to „choice?, „deliberate-choice?, „wish?, „desire? and „passion?. Analysing these concepts, Aristotle claims that choices based upon deliberation and arise from a person who knows and rules thyself will take him to happiness. So, deliberate-choice precedes the decision making process and requires a personal prediction as to what kind of happiness is wished. To actualize this prediction, one must deliberate on why an action to be done or not. This connection which Aristotle establish can be reconsidered in a Kahnemanian perspective that refers to „system-1? and „system-2?. According to this perspective, fast and quick system-1, on the one hand, is related to desires and passion; slow system-2 on the other hand is to wish and deliberate-choice. In this context, the deliberate-choice which Aristotle in decision-making process separates from choice is reduced to only choice in decision making processes of modern human being.
