Bu incelemede, ilk önce yeni bulgular ışığı altında sosyal kimlik kuramı ve kendini sınıflandırma kuramı genel olarak ele alınmış ve sonra sosyal kimlik ve üretkenlik ilişkisine değinilmiştir. Bu inceleme sonucunda, sosyal kimliğin üretkenlik üzerindeki etkisinin algılamaya dayalı ölçümlerle incelendiği, ancak çok az araştırmada gerçek performans ölçümleri kullanıldığı saptanmıştır. Son yıllarda literatürde ortaya çıkan gelişmeler ışığında, sosyal kimlik ile üretkenlik arasındaki ilişki, beyin fırtınası gruplarında performans ölçümleri yöntemi kullanılarak araştırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda, özellikle sosyal kimliğin değişiminin, grup kompozisyonun, sosyal ortamın ve rol üstlenmenin etkileri ayrıntılı olarak incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, kimliklenme düzeyinin, aracı ve bazı durumlarda ise ayarlayıcı veya düzenleyici bir değişken olarak rol oynadığı da ortaya çıkmıştır. Son olarak, sosyal kimlik ile üretkenlik arasındaki ilişkide söz konusu olan diğer aracı değişkenler (örn., bilişsel ve güdüsel süreçler) bu incelemede ele alınmaktadır. Bu bulgular, sosyal kimlik kuramı ve beyin fırtınası literatürü ışığı altında tartışılmaktadır.

This article starts with a general overview of social identity theory and self-categorization theory in the context of recent findings in the literature, with an emphasis on the connection between social identity and productivity. In this emerging review, it has been discovered that the influence of social identity on productivity has been examined by means of perceptual measures but that few studies have used actual performance measures. In the light of recent developments in the literature, the relationship between social identity and productivity was examined by using performance measures in brainstorming groups. A detailed consideration of the influences of social identity change, group composition, social context, and role taking on productivity was made. Moreover, the argument has been made that identification level seems to play an important role as a mediator and in some cases a moderator role between social identity and productivity. Lastly, other mediators (e.g, cognitive and motivational processes) for the relationship between social identity and productivity were emphasized in this review. These findings are discussed in light of social identity theory and brainstorming literature.
