Kendini ayarlama kuramına göre, bazı insanlar bir durumdaki hangi ifade veya davranışın uygun olduğunu gösteren ipuçlarını kullanarak davranışlarını gözlemleyip kontrol edebilirler. Snyder (1974), bu duyarlılığı kendini ayarlama yeteneği olarak adlandırmış ve bu yeteneği ölçmek üzere bir ölçek geliştirmiştir. Ancak, Lennox ve Wolfe (1984), bu ölçeğin kuramsal yapıya bağlılığı olmadığı ve psikometrik zayıflık sergilediği gerekçesiyle ölçeği yeniden ele alarak daha güçlü hale getirmişlerdir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, Lennox ve Wolfe tarafından geliştirilen Gözden Geçirilmiş Kendini Ayarlama (G-KA; Revised Self-Monitoring) Ölçeği’nin güvenirlik ve geçerlik çalışmasının yapılmasıdır. Geçerlik analizleri sonrasında bir madde ölçekten çıkartılmış ve kalan 12 maddeyle yapılan faktör analizinde, maddeler orijinalindeki gibi iki faktöre yüklenmiştir. Yine geçerlik için ölçeğin, nörotiklik ve öz etkinlik yapılarıyla olan ilişkileri incelenmiştir. Ölçek, beklendiği gibi, nörotiklikle ilişkisiz olup, öz etkinlikle pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişkiye sahiptir. Ölçeğin, Cronbach alpha katsayısı .80, test-tekrar test güvenirlik katsayısı ise 74 olarak bulunmuştur. Sonuçlar G-KA Ölçeği’nin psikometrik açıdan güçlü bir ölçek olduğunu ima etmektedir.

According to the self-monitoring theory, some people can monitor and control their behaviors using the clues which show what expression or behavior is appropriate in a situation. Snyder called this sensitivity as self-monitoring and he constructed a scale to measure it. However, after critisizing Self Monitoring Scale because of its theoretical and psychometric weaknesses, Lennox and Wolfe (1984) developed a more powerful scale in terms of psychometric properties. The main aim of this study is to conduct reliability and validity analyses of Revised Self-monitoring Scale (R-SM) which was developed by Lennox and Wolfe. After validity analyses, one item was discarded from scale and factor analyses were conducted with the 12 left items. Items were loaded in to two factors as in the original scale. Again for validty, the relationship of the scale with neuroticism and self-efficacy was investigated. The scale had no relationship with neuroticism and significant positive relationship with self-efficacy as expected. Reliability studies of Turkish form of R-SM showed that Cronbach alpha coefficient is .80 and test-retest reliability coefficient is .74. Results indicate that R-SM is a strong scale in terms of psychometric properties.
