Bu araştırmanın amacı yeme tutumu ve cinsiyet ile bağlanma biçimleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Ayrıca, katılımcıların bağlanma biçimlerinin kategorik dağılımlarını ve cinsiyetler arasındaki farkları saptamak da araştırmanın amaçlarındandır. 2003-2004 Güz ve Bahar dönemlerinde Orta Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi’nin değişik bölüm ve sınıflarında eğitim gören 759 öğrenciye Bilgi Toplama Formu, Yeme Tutum Testi (YTT) ve İlişki Ölçekleri Anketi (İÖA) uygulanmıştır. YTT puan ortalamasının en az 1 standart sapma uzağında kalan katılımcılar belirlenmiştir. Kız ve erkek öğrenciler için ayrı ayrı oluşturulan bu gruplar "yeme tutumu gösterenler/göstermeyenler" olarak adlandırılmıştır. Yeme tutumu ve cinsiyetin bağlanma biçimleri üzerindeki etkisi incelenmiş ve yeme tutum sorunu gösterenlerde göstermeyenlere kıyasla korkulu ve saplantılı bağlanma biçimi puan ortalamalarının daha yüksek olduğu bulunurken, cinsiyetler arasında anlamlı fark bulunmamıştır. Araştırmaya katılan örneklemin %35.6’sında kayıtsız, %27’sinde güvenli, %19.1’inde saplantılı, %11.1’inde korkulu ve %5.1’inde ise birden fazla bağlanma biçimi olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bulgular literatür çerçevesinde tartışılmıştır.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between eating attitudes, gender and attachment styles. Furthermore, it was investigated that the comparison of the distribution of the attachment prototypes. The sample consisted of 759 students chosen from different departments and classes in Middle East Technical University. Participants were assessed by using a Sociodemographic Form, Eating Attitude Test (EAT) and The Relationship Questionnaire (RQ). Subjects were divided into groups according to higher and lower scale scores of the EAT. In doing this, inclusion criteria was far away from one standart deviation from EAT scale scores. Result of the MANOVA revealed that as compared to non-eating attitude group, eating attitude group have higher levels of fearfull and preoccupied attachment styles. Participants were also classified on the basis of attachment styles. The proportions of attachment styles of the participants were as follows: Dismissing 35.6 %, Secure 27 %, Preoccupied 19.1 %, Fearful 11.1 %, combined (more than one atachment style) 5 %. Findings were discussed in the light of attachment literature regarding the eating attitude issues.
